Mr. Farook Merchant,
Founder & Trustee, Nityaasha Foundation
In the spirit of World Diabetes Day and Diabetes Awareness month, I would like to extend my gratitude to all the Doctors & Well-Wishers associated with Nityaasha Foundation for believing in my vision and mission and supporting me in achieving my dreams to provide a holistic support to the under privileged children with Type 1 Diabetes.
At this time, I would like to specially thank Dr. Vaman Khadilkar, Dr. Mrs Anuradha Khadilkar & their team from Jehangir Hospital, Dr.Chittaranjan Yajnik , Dr. Kalpana Jog & their team from KEM Hospital, Our patron doctors, Dr. Nazim Merchant, Dr.Konda Reddy, Dr.Deepa Devekar, for their constant support and guidance.
Nityaasha, with a strong determination and focused motive, is moving forward to achieve its goal and is instrumental in providing free services to 120 children till date. The services include medical aid such as insulin, blood glucose monitoring strips, syringes, lancets, glucometers, Annual pathology tests, Dental & Eye Check-ups followed by regular monitoring through Home Visits, Clinic Visits, Follow up calls and psycho-socio counselling.
As one of Nityaasha’s prime mandates is to closely monitor families through home visits. During this routine procedure, we came across families living in harsh conditions in the rural remote areas with no access to primary health care facilities.
Looking at lack of diabetes awareness and education amongst these rural populations and understanding the dire need for medical support to Type 1 Diabetic children, Nityaasha would henceforth focus more to provide its services to these needy families from remote areas as one of its objectives.
Gulshan Maskati Mrs. Gulshan Maskati,
Managing Committee Member, Nityaasha Foundation
Every individual, whether rich or poor, has multi-fold dreams for his/her life. This is especially true for young children who are yet to explore this beautiful world and give reality to their dreams and aspirations. Keeping this in mind, we at Nityaasha Foundation believe that- “Type 1 Diabetes does not have to stand in the way of your dreams.”
Nityaasha Foundation and its Managing Committee members, doctors and staff -believe that with the right awareness, education and medicines, Type 1 Diabetes shall not hamper achieving one’s dreams and goals. Guiding and aiding economically poor and under privileged children with Type 1 Diabetes with free insulin strips, counselling sessions, medical care and close monitoring since the last year, Nityaasha Foundation is a tiny step in making the Type 1 Diabetes manageable, thereby helping these children “Rejoicing the gift of life”.

We pledge to relentlessly take this theme forward

Sadly, Type-1 diabetes is a sinister disease which gripsyoung children and continues to shadow them throughout their lives. The Nityaasha Foundation is working hard towards thenoble cause of providing holistic support to diabetic children until they reach adulthood. With availability of better care, longevity of these children is improving. We are looking at numerous young diabetic adults entering the community in the near future with individualized needs for careers and matrimony. It is our responsibility as a community to accept them whole heartedly, to understand that with insulin injections, they are as normal as their counterparts. That they can compete with their peers on all fronts of life. They should not be subjected to discrimination of any sort. This would be my earnest request to all members of our society.
