First Encounter with T1D:
I got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 14 years old. I was completely clueless about Type 1 Diabetes. I didn’t even know there existed anything called Type 1 Diabetes.
The Support:
My family and I were a little bit taken aback after the diagnosis, but I fought with all I had to keep strong get my diabetes under control. I had my family’s support.
The Negative Reactions:
Not everybody reacted positively to my condition, especially acquaintances. It got me quite upset. However, now when I look back I realize they were not meant to stay in my life for very long. As a matter of fact, I have come across a lot of discouraging people, but I find it very easy to ignore such people, because I know that they are not aware of the fact that Type 1 Diabetes can be handled with proper diet, exercise and medication.
The Challenges:
It is imperative for a diabetic person to keep his/her sugar levels in check as there is always a possibility of Hypoglycemia. I had got a Hypoglycemic shock once for an entire day and had to be hospitalized in order to be treated.
The Temptations:
I avoid temptations. I eat only what is required for maintaining my health. I don’t fuss over food.
Words of experience:
I want to tell all those who have Type 1 Diabetes that they should be positive and never ignore their health. Have complete knowledge about your condition and have faith that it can be tackled.
